Turin is a

Historical
Center
The old town, full of arcades, large pedestrian areas and valuable architectural
structures and elegant squares, gives the city an impression of nobility which
does not conflict with the modern residential areas. Piazza Castello is the
symbol of the baroque and the legacy of Savoy in Turin (do not miss a visit to
the Palazzo Reale and Palazzo Madama).
Museums and theaters
Turin Museums are numerous: the most famous Egyptian Museum, the largest in the
world after Cairo, the Film Museum, housed in the Mole Antonelliana, the
Automobile Museum, the Galleria Sabauda, the Museum of Risorgimento and the
Galleria d'Arte Moderna (GAM). Turin is the artistic and cultural center of
Piedmont, among the finest theaters remember the Teatro Regio and Teatro
Carignano, a small treasure chest of art.
Churches
The center of Turin is a cradle of spirituality among the many churches remind
the renaissance Cathedral with its adjacent Chapel of the Shroud, a masterpiece
of the architect Guarino Guarini, who also designed the neighboring San Lorenzo,
the Santuario della Consolata, the patron saint of the city, the aroque church
of the Holy Martyrs, the church of S. Philip Neri with the venerated remains of
Blessed Sebastian Valfrè, the Basilica of Maria Ausiliatrice with the tomb of
Don Bosco, and on a hill, the basilica of Superga, a masterpiece of Juvarra.
Shopping
The main shopping streets are Via Roma, Via Garibaldi, Via Po and Via Lagrange,
where alternate boutiques, jewelery shops and cafes.
Eating and drinking
The Quadrilatero Romano, the part of the historic center of Turin where is
located the Hotel Dogana Vecchia, is very rich of restaurants and pubs. Among
the historic cafes and chocolate shops, boasting centuries of Turin, we mention
the cafes in Piazza San Carlo (Caffè San Carlo and Caffè Torino), Mulassano and

Fiorio in Via Po.
